Shed Uses
The evolution of the shed is not superficial. Along with its many new looks, it is performing functions heretofore unheard of for a mere backyard shed. In fact, it’s not a stretch to say that the 21st century shed may actually have the ability to fulfill your dreams.
Before you start thinking that we’re exaggerating on this point, just give it some thought. You may be dying to have a room of your own, but your space is restricted because, like most of us, you have been unwilling to part with some of your old stuff, which has taken over your “extra” room. You may want the room for solitude, or as a quiet place to pursue a hobby. You may also be one of the growing number of people with a job that allows you to work from home, or one of the thousands who has started a home-based business, and you need some designated office space.
So, what do you do? Build an extra room? Don’t bother! There are two great alternatives – and they both involve getting a shed.

Naturally, a shed would be a great place to store the things that are cluttering up the coveted space; and, given the attractiveness of today’s sheds, it could also be a lovely addition to the yard. And – of course – when you take the stuff out to the shed, you’re going to be diligent about throwing away everything that’s truly worthless, so that the shed won’t get too cluttered, right? Ri-i-ght!
Okay. That’s not a bad idea. Our durable, decay-resistant sheds are great for traditional uses. Whether you’re storing your lawn mower, garden tools, hoses, pool equipment, outdoor furniture, or winter supplies, or stuffing them full of your over-flowing household items, our sheds can handle the heavy usage, and look spectacular doing it.
BUT…
Considering the aesthetic appeal of the 21st century shed, the other alternative may be even more enticing. You want a room that will be devoted to – and set up for – a specific use, where you’ll be able to do your thing without distraction; but simply by being in the house, you will continue to be subjected to unwelcome interruptions.
This is where our shed comes to the rescue. With its stunning beauty, and tons of options, such as skylights, cupolas, shelves, shutters, window boxes, and even electricity and plumbing, it would be much better to use your shed for your personal, private space.
People everywhere are doing it – and loving it! Truly, the list of uses for our sheds is endless, and ever-growing.
Besides being used, in many instances, as home offices, our sheds are also being turned into home gyms, laundry rooms, artists’ studios, playhouses, pottery rooms, potting sheds, hobby rooms, supply rooms, greenhouses, club houses, poker rooms, and inventory rooms. These are but a few of the uses of which we have heard. Basically, you can use your shed for any purpose for which you had your special room earmarked, but without the constant interruptions; and you can remind your loved ones that you won’t be bothering them, either.
By the way, there’s another use that you might consider, which could be quite intriguing. In our History of Storage Sheds section, where we talked of archaeologists’ findings in the sheds of ancient societies, we posed the question, “What would your shed tell future generations about you?” That got us to thinking that, hey, our sheds are designed and built to last for so long, that you could actually use one as a time capsule!
Once again, not a bad idea.
…We love it. I had my first nap in [the gazebo] today.
